The K&T kit uses a billet manifold between the head and throttle bodies (replaces the stock rubber ones that crack even with non boosted motors) AND the plenum seals to the throttle bodies with o-rings and bolts. Not silicone couplers and hose clamps like every other kit.

It is really clean and will not vibrate or pop off under boost. I would recommend the K&T kit. What other kit is making 200hp @ the wheels on a stock motor?

Mike, I agree, the K&T kit for the 1K looks awesome! All of their stuff is first rate! That was the one I had my heart set on before I saw the Boondocker kit.

Now I am really trying to decide if one will work better for my situation. I'm a little unsure about 2 things on the K&T kit though. Since you have allot of experience in the matter, can you help me in my decision of who's kit is overall better. Here is my situation.

Since I have a 4 seat XP1K, and have a Front & Rear windshield, roof, and lower door inserts on the car I'm concerned that the intercooler placement on the K&T kit will not have a great supply of cool air, and will heat soak easily because of its position directly over the turbo, and because its all covered up by the plastics. I figure I could probably buy those throttle body to head pieces separately if I were to buy the Boondocker kit. It sounds like they would be a good investment!

Didn't your company make the Liquid to Air intercooler for the K&T 900 kit? That is a very nice system! Is liquid to air intercooling a better way to go, especially because of my air flow restrictions? Here is the other question.

I ride extremely dusty trails pretty most all the time out here in Utah. The really fine talcum powder dusty crap!

I'm worried about having the air intake from under the bed, where that dust swirl is really bad. I really like how the Boondocker kit uses the factory filter, and factory intake location. Would that be a better intake setup for extreme dust?

Do you see any problem areas with the Boondocker 1K kit, besides the Throttle Body Boots? Thank you for your input. I really value the opinion of those who work in the industry. Can't really say anything bad about the Boondocker simply because I have never seen one. It is obvious there are drawbacks to having the inter cooler close to the turbo. However having an inter cooler up on the cage typically requires longer piping with many bends that increases pressure drop and as a result increases your inlet air temp. However K&t did a good job by minimizing heat soak by installing a large isolated turbo heat shield, using a perforated grill on the firewall to suck in fresh air and the fans are fully shrouded to suck air from every square inch of the inter cooler.

This makes a huge difference from just strapping a fan on. The short proximity of the piping will give you better throttle response. I realize the boondocker is air/water but I question it's effectiveness with such a small heat exchanger and no water tank. Once the water is hot, it's gonna stay hot.

As for the filter, K&t has an Donaldson option which will filter as good if not better then the stock one. If you are dead set on an air/water for your application, talk to K&t and see if they have something in the works. I know we could convert the inter cooler to a/w should you desire. You would have to add a heat exchanger, pump and reservoir tank for it to be efficient. Hope that answers your questions! Good luck with your purchase, I'm sure you'll be happy either way. The billet intake between throttle bodies and motor is very important especially if you are going to turn the boost up.

K&T doesn't have rubber between plenum and throttle body or throttle body and head. Ok, I just got back from the show again, and I asked a TON of questions! I talked with a guy named 'Junior'. He really knows his stuff! He told me within the next week or so he will have their Billet Intake CAD design finished, and it will go into production soon after. (Those replace the rubber boots between the Throttle Bodies and the head.

They are also finishing up their cam chain adjuster design, that automatically adjusts. He also told me they will be offering a TIAL external waste gate option very soon.
