Cbc Morning Edition Rick Cluff

Cbc Morning Edition Rick Cluff

Stephen Quinn will be taking over The Early Edition, CBC radio One’s flagship morning show starting on Jan. Party Icebreakers Games here. He replaces longtime host Rick Cluff, who announced his retirement last week after 21 years on the morning mic. Quinn said this is his dream job. “It starts the conversation, sets the agenda and fuels the debate throughout the day.” He’s also a little nervous despite his 24 years in broadcast journalism, including nine years at the helm of the top-rated newstalk show, CBC’s On the Coast. “There will be a lot of people who miss Rick, and a lot of people will miss Lisa (Christensen) and I in the afternoons. Blackmart Alpha New Version 2013. People build their routines around the shows.” Quinn will be following in the footsteps of Cluff, who has roused listeners from their sleep with his comforting, warm voice for two decades, and he knows it’s a tough act to follow. Quinn has a more blunt interviewing style, and he doesn’t plan to pull any punches when he’s going after a story as the morning host.

“People who make decisions about our lives need to be pressed, and they need to be held to account,” he said. Quinn cut his teeth in journalism working the night beat on CKNW for four years after studying broadcast journalism at BCIT. Quinn went on to develop a municipal beat, telling stories about things that affect people day to day in their communities, and that sensibility still informs his work.

“My heart is in local,” he said. His work on the municipal beat caught the ear of CBC, who hired him away from CKNW. After eight years as the civic affairs reporter for CBC, Quinn was ready to transition from “news junkie” to current affairs and landed the role helming the in-depth afternoon show, On the Coast. Chasing breaking news is thrilling, said Quinn, 54, but, “It’s a younger person’s game.” “Current affairs isn’t about what happened, It’s about why it happened and how it affects people.” Quinn said he is going to miss the On the Coast team after working with them for eight years. “The host is not the show.

On the Coast right now, the team I work with right now is (made up of) stunningly smart people who do so much more of the work than I do.” Taking over the morning show, Quinn said, “It is the show of record now, but I don’t want it to be mandatory listening because people happen to wake up to it. I want it to be mandatory listening because there is something there that everybody is going to be talking about because it broke on our show.” Gloria Macarenko will take over from Quinn as host of On The Coast.
