In 'Advanced File Recovery' option you need to manually select the drive / partition from which you want to recover files deleted using DOS command. I just recently deleted a folder that i wasn't supposed to delete inside my EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE. Inside that folder were 2 other very important sub folders. It was over 8 gigs so when i deleted it, i unfortunately commited the same mistake of pressing the 'yes' button again when it asked the files to bypass the recycling bin being permanently deleted from the computer. In fact it happened so fast it seemed like it vaporized.

It was hard to believe that over 8 gigs of files were eliminated that fast, whereas usually any big file i would delete would normally take a while for the computer to process. I seriously doubt the worst here, and i have tried about 4 data recovery programs that were only able to detect the very main folder that was deleted but not the more important 2 subfolders inside of it containing the big chunk of the data. I've even been able to detect files that were deleted months ago through these programs, but not the important 8 gigabyte chunk i just deleted an hour ago. By the way i tried scanning both the C drive(main) and the external hard drive and browsing through the:/recycle folders, but to no avail.

The programs i used were EasyRecovery pro v 2.45, Final Recovery, Free Undelete and Win Undelete. After much searching. I was looking for Kelly's page for 'Deleted File Restorer': REST2514.exe which I have a copy of but seems to have gone missing at Kelly's. Not sure if this will ONLY find files dropped from Recycle Bin (not deleted) This was all I found: To see the files listed in the Recycled Folder Go to Start/Run and type in: CMD. At the prompt type in: cd [enter] then cd Recycled [enter] then dir [enter].

They will listed similar to this: Dc25.url, Dc26.lnk, etc. If Windows is installed on D:, it will then be listed as Dd25, etc. The number represents the number of file deleted. A hidden folder is creating on each volume that has the recycle bin enabled named Recycled. Any deleted files are moved to this folder and renamed to: C. And the original full name and path stored in a mapping file Info2. For example the file name: C: www.dbknox_faq.com index.html would become Dc1.html (if it was the first file deleted on the partition).

What A Wonderful World Karaoke. When the Recycle Bin becomes full, Windows starts deleting files to make room for newly deleted files. These files are still recoverable until you 'empty' the Recycle Bin.

To Recover Files in NTFS: Click Start, Run and enter%systemdrive% Recycler. Under this folder you'll see sub folders with names like: S-1-5-2298-1003 One of these is your user's Recycle Bin folder, you'll have to determine which.

Then open a Command Prompt Window and type: Start/Run and type in: CMD CD Recycled Next type DIR Locate the files with the file extension that you wish to recover. There may be more than one of the same type.

These files will all be DC??xxx where?? Is a number and xxx is the file extension. Use the COPY command to copy all of the matching files out.

For example: COPY *.DOC C: Temp to copy all DOC files to C: Temp. Now you can open these files and find the one(s) that you wanted to retrieve. BELOW MAY BE BEST BET: Entering REST2514.exe into Google brings up several other possible download sites (unless they're just links back to Kelly's). One was 'Snapfiles'. Hope this is of some help (data recovery service is expensive in the ridiculous range).
