How can i check the serial# of movado watch? Can someone please look it up for me if the watch is real or not? Model number on a Movado Watch??

Hi Friends, I actually forgot I had this watch! Does anyone know anything about it? I have no idea about it except that the complete case is.585 (14K), Swiss Hallmarks just about everywhere and that it is marked: 15 Jewels, Adjusted to 4 positions.

The dial appears to be paper and not in the best of shape. Also the movement seems a bit washed. Here are some pictures. Movement: Movement: Movement: Case back: Case front: Inside Cover: Inside cover detail: Hallmark example: Dial: What I thought was the serial number (# 34976) turns out to be some type of standard number on the balance bridge see: old ref::my watch also has this number but it is not 18K and has a movement diameter of only about 36 or 37mm. The reason I am asking in this case is that the watch is going Ebay and I want to be able to give an accurate description. Appreciate any help.

Cheers Louis. Jon, I have been trying to get that book for a while now but more because I have several Movado wrist watches.

However, I am too cheap to pay the real going price so I keep on waiting until I find it at a price I want to pay. I have another book by Osterhausen called 'Pocketwatches' I was not all impressed by it. Is the Movado book as good as it appears to be?

Is it possible to get a scan of those pages? Cort, Actually it is not paper but rather appears to be as you say.I came up with paper because I simply glanced it and noticed at some areas around the edge the 'paint' flaked off. The watch is not bad looking but it was a 'used' watch. It belonged to a house doctor and he used only this watch for years. Always had it serviced etc. But as said carried it at all times.

Still it runs perfect. The front hinge needs a bit of solder. Appreicate the comments.

Cheers Louis. I like the Movado book a lot and also his book on Wrist Chronometers.

The general subject of pocketwatches is pretty broad and I did not know Osterhausen had takled it too. The best general reference on pocketwatches in German is Meis. I'll have to decline on scanning the pages, courtesy to authors and a lot of effort which I don't think will help your Ebay effort all that much. One thing that might be useful to you is that Movado was very active in the Neuchatel Observatory contests during the time period your watch was likely to have been made.

They did fairly well with watches that have a family resemblance to yours. One thing that put me off about Movado was that they rarely jeweled the center wheel stoppping at 15. Call it my American predjudice for high jewel counts. However Movado made a lot of chronometer grade watches withthis low jewel count and there is no reason why a watch fresh from the factory (that is less than 100 years old) really needs a jeweled center wheel. As the other Jon would say 'buy the book'. Throne Of Darkness Full Game more. If you are an NAWCC member you can probably borrow it from the library and try it before you buy it.

I suspect the book is available in German by Callwey while the US English edition is published by Shiffer. If I had the choice and I had your German fluency the CAallwey is a no brainer, even if it costs more. The Movado history is quite interesting and complex.

Ill look again for serial numbers and dating to see if I can apply it to your watch.
